History

At the request of several Dallas County (TX) judges, Recovery Healthcare Corporation was formed in 1992 to address offenders with substance abuse issues − specifically those with multiple DWI charges. At that time, no local company was addressing this pervasive issue.

We were asked to develop a program that would effectively assess addiction levels, monitor offenders for court-ordered sobriety, and tailor treatment for the most effective outcomes. Our all-inclusive program eventually became the standard within the State of Texas.

Since then, Recovery Healthcare has continued our growth by offering not only state-mandated programs, but has also entered into other areas within the substance abuse arena. Some highlights of our success include:

1997 – Recovery Healthcare began offering a long-term outpatient substance abuse treatment program which, at the time, was a unique and innovative undertaking in our industry. We maintain this successful Intensive Outpatient Program today, which lasts approximately 18 months:

  • First 8 months – clients spend an average of 10 hours/ week in counseling and education
  • Next 10 months – clients attend accountability sessions for approximately 3 hours/ week

2003 – Once again, the Dallas County Judicial System asked for our help to address the growing number of multiple DWI offenders who were causing a backlog of cases and overcrowding the jails. We explored and implemented a new technology called SCRAM® (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) that detects alcohol consumption transdermally (“through the skin”) based on the amount of ethanol vapor present in the offender’s insensible perspiration. This device monitors the offender on a 24/7 basis which, at the time, was unprecedented in the criminal justice industry.

Since then, Recovery Healthcare has grown into the largest SCRAM – and now SCRAMx® – provider in the United States. Today, we monitor over 1300 clients within Texas (in 79 counties and districts), Louisiana, and Oklahoma for alcohol and house arrest.

2005 − Recovery Healthcare became the treatment provider for the Dallas DWI Court Program. Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of clients successfully turn their lives around and maintain sober and drug-free lifestyles.

2006 – Recovery Healthcare was asked to evaluate Parker County (TX)’s Electronic Monitoring program. We evaluated all available GPS tracking equipment, and found that Pro Tech had the most reliable product and that the company was a good fit with our organization. We were then asked to take the program over from a previous vendor ,and began our partnership with Pro Tech that exists to this day. Since then, the Electronic Monitoring portion of our business has expanded into many counties within the State of Texas.
